American Academy of Micropigmentation

What is Micropigmentation/Permanent Makeup?

This medically developed procedure is a revolutionary way of implanting color pigment into the skin to create a lasting cosmetic effect.  A safe and effective procedure, micropigmentation is performed by depositing pigment into the skin with a specially designed motorized instrument and a sterile needle or group of needles.

Micropigmentation can be performed to enhance the eyes, eyebrows and lips.  Your makeup can be as soft or as dramatic as you like.  It can also be used to camouflage scars and burns, as well as give the nipple/areola complex a more natural appearance following breast reconstruction surgery.

Kathie's Permanent Makeup has received referrals from physicians and patients from all over the country because of her commitment to quality and the the experience of over 6,000 procedures.

What Does Permanent Makeup Do?

Lipliner/Lip Color:  The Permanent Makeup procedure for Lipliner/Lip color is beautiful.  Lipliner helps to accentuate your lips, enhance the size, shape and cen even correct uneven lip contours.  This procedure helps prevent lipstick from bleeding into surrounding skin.  The entire lip can also be pigmented for a more polished look.

Eyebrows:  The Permanent Makeup procedure for eyebrows can mimic the appearance of hair in the brow line.  Anyone who desires more fullness of the brows will love this procedure.  Those who used to apply pencil can go swimming, play tennis or wipe their forehead without the embarrassment of losing their eyebrows.  The brows are balanced with your facial features and are shaped to your liking.  Alopecia and cancer sufferers are pleasantly surprised at how natural it looks.

Eyeliner:  Eyeliner is applied at the lash line to make your eyelashes look fuller and your eyes brighter.  Additional shadowing of color can be added for a soft natural liner or a more bold definite line can be achieved.  For gentlemen, tiny dots of color are added to enlarge and brighten the eyes.  Ophthalmologists recomment Permanent Makeup procedures for those who are allergic to conventional makeup and for those wearing contact lenses.

Nipple/Areola Repigmentation:  This procedure is for women that have had a mastectomy.  Women now expect the treatment of breast cancer to include either breast preservation or breast reconstruction.  The goal of modern breast reconstruction is to alleviate the deformity of the breast and to construct breasts that meet the patients expectations, both aesthetically and psychologically.  With Nipple/areola Repigmentation we can now make the breast more aesthetically pleasing for the patient.  Kathie has completed specialized training and is certified in this procedure.

Commonly Asked Questions

What if I want to change my makeup?

Kathie's Permanent Makeup works with your natural facial features to enhance them to their fullest.  This natural look allows you to apply osmetics over your Permanent makeup for color variety.  Therefore, even without applied makeup, you are always beautifully enhanced.

Is the procedure painful?

A topical anesthetis is applied prior to and during each procedure to numb the epidermis and to ease any discomfort.  Since Kathie's Permanent Makeup is under a doctors supervision, we use prescription anesthetics.

Is the procedure safe?

Yes, Kathie's Permanent Makeup follows strict hygiene and sterilization procedures that conform to OSHA and CDC (Center of Desiease Control) guidelines.  Every client is administered an allergy test prior to the procedure.  All materials are disposed of properly and never reused.  Semi-annual inspections are performed by a physician.

Is this the same as a tattoo?

Yes, both are permanent.  With Permanent Makeup pigments are lighter and generally need touchup within 3-5 years.  These pigments hold true to color and will not turn the skin blue or pick like tattoo inks will.  However, everone is different and results will depend on age, skin tones, body chemistry, sun exposure and exfoliation.

Is the procedure affordable?

Considering that Permanent Makeup lasts 3-5 years before a "touch up" is needed, it is relatively inexpensive.  Compared to the long-term cost of the products and procedures that men and women spend in the everyday maintenance of their physical appearance, Permanent Makeup is quite affordable.

Do I have a choice of colors?

Definitely!  There is a wide spectrum of colors that you may choose from.

Do I have a in the placement of pigments?

You will be fully aware during the procedure and will instruct the technician where you wish the pigments to be located.

What is involved in recovery?

There will be slight swelling and redness in the skin which will subside quickly.  You may resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.  Complete healing takes one to six weeks while the pigmentation matures and reaches its final color.

Will I need a touchup?

For the first week or so the intensity of your Permanent Makeup will be much stronger than the final color will be, up to 50% more intense.  During the healing process, 30%-60% of the color will be lost.  A touch up session is included in the fee within the first two months.
