| Mother and Daughter at the Black Belt Test |
|
The Black Belt test in November was an interesting day for both my daughter Randi and I.
It was the first time we ever tested together, 2nd Dan for her, deputy black for me.
For the last two years we have been at the Black Belt tests for Randi to assist and since I had to drive her there I figured I would observe. That day felt a little strange for me because I was going there to test and observe. I definitely knew I would pass because Master Johnson would not have set me up to fail. I decided to go out there and do my best. I had a great test, felt good about it and had fun with it. Later on it was time for Randi to test and I got to play the nervous Mom role, just like any other parent who watches their child take the Black Belt test. Randi had such an awesome test she overshadowed me. I was not as nervous that day watching her as when she tested for 1st Dan two years earlier. I have to admit I was a near basket case back then. Randi and I did very well that day because we attended previous Black Belt tests and knew what to expect. Both Master Johnson and Master Nathan encourage us to go and watch every three months. It does help to see at least one before you have to test yourself in order to know what you have to do to reach that goal to be a Black Belt and gain great respect toward the Federation. |
